On Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers decided to retract the franchise tag they placed on corner back Josh Norman, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent and open to talks with any team.
Would Josh Norman fit in D.C.?
For starters, lets take this into consideration: the Pro Bowl corner tallied 7 interceptions last season, with the entire Redskins defense totaling 11.
Norman could bolster a secondary that has been troublesome for quite a few years, and with DeAngelo Hall needing a replacement very soon, Norman could be the guy to slip into the top corner back position.
The Redskins haven’t made any booming moves in free agency, and that is mainly due to new general manager Scot McCloughan, who religiously believes that you build a team through the draft.
However, the Redskins will be able to use their 1st or 2nd round draft picks on a position other than corner back and will also not have to go through the rookie grooming that can take up to three seasons with some players.
Would it be anything new if Dan Synder wanted the most expensive and potential risk free agent in the entire 2016 offseason?
Not at all.
And reports have it that the Redskins and 49ers are front-runners for Norman.
He would no doubt help this Redskins secondary tremendously, however, is he going to be worth the money? Isn’t that always the question with this team?
It seems to be more times than not, unfortunately.
