Preseason or not, Baltimore does not like the Colts.
Any victory against them tastes that much sweeter. On Saturday night, the Ravens did a superb job of playing as one unit, something that they’ve been known for even since John Harbaugh took over as the head coach. The execution resulted in a 19-18 win over the Colts for their second win of the preseason in as many games.
Newly acquired free agent Eric Weddle recovered a momentum swinging fumble, which resulted in a 14-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Mallett to Kamar Aiken. The score off the pivotal turnover gave the Ravens a 7-6 lead.
Right before the first half ended, Josh Johnson took command of the offense and threw a dazzling 12-yard strike to Jeremy Butler to give Baltimore a 14-6 halftime lead.
Johnson completed 11 passes for 72 yards and one touchdown, while carrying the football five times for 40 yards. One of his runs came on a 24-yard run that resulted in a pivotal first down.
For good measure, he embarrassed the Colts defense in the process. Johnson was later named the CSN Ravens Player of the Game for his valiant efforts.
While Baltimore only scored five points in the entire second half, they managed to do it in the most exciting way possible.
During the end of the fourth quarter, the Colts regained the lead, scoring their second touchdown and would then attempt the two-point conversion to take an 18-17 lead.
Miraculously, Anthony Levine made the Colts rue that decision — returning an interception on the two point try for a “pick six” to steal the two-point conversion from the Colts. The play proved to be the game-deciding moment as the Ravens would preserve the 19-18 victory.
With one final chance, the Colts sent out their punter, Pat McAfee, to attempt a 62-yard field goal with five seconds left to go. Luckily for Baltimore, he missed it by a mile and the Ravens held on to win for their first time ever in the Colts new stadium.
It may only be preseason, but the Ravens are looking mighty.
Baltimore will take on the Detroit Lions at 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 27.
