Elijah Long (19 points, seven assists and six rebounds), Junior Robinson (17 points, four assists and three steals) and Miles Wilson (17 points and four rebounds) charged Mount St. Mary’s to their fourth straight win in the wire-to-wire victory over Sacred Heart on Thursday night, 86-75.
Mount St. Mary’s (8-12, 6-1 Northeast Conference) staked a 19-4 lead to begin the game with 14 points coming from Long, Robinson, and Wilson. Mawdo Sallah’s jumper with 9:59 before halftime extended the Mountaineers’ lead, 35-11.
The Mountaineers led Sacred Heart 51-27 at the break. The Pioneers rallied with a 26-7 spurt in the first 8:25 of the second half and trailed 58-55 on Quincy McKnight’s (26 points) layup but couldn’t get closer.
Chris Wray had seven points and 13 rebounds for Mount St. Mary’s. Long also had nine of the Mountaineers’ 23 turnovers. Greg Alexander had 12 points and Sallah added 10.
Mount St. Mary’s remains in a three-way tie atop the NEC and their 6-1 conference start is the best in program history.
