Mount St. Mary’s downs Fairleigh Dickinson, tied atop NEC

Elijah Long’s career night (14 points, 12 assists, seven rebounds and five steals) propelled Mount St. Mary’s to a 77-70 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday night.

The win moves Mount St. Mary’s (6-12, 4-1 NEC) into a first-place tie with Fairleigh Dickinson (6-10, 4-1 NEC) and LIU Brooklyn (11-7, 4-1 NEC) atop the Northeast Conference.

Long sparked a 7-0 run to conclude the final 1:07 with a layup that gave the Mountaineers a 72-70 lead. On the next possession, Long forced a turnover and assisted on Junior Robinson’s layup to pad the lead to 74-70. Robinson soon added a pair of free throws and Long made one more to seal their fourth conference victory.

Mount St. Mary’s shot 57.1 percent (28 of 49) from the floor.

Greg Alexander scored a team-high 19 points on five 3-pointers. Robinson finished with 16 points. Ryan Gomes added 10 points (5 of 5 shooting) in 13 minutes off the bench and Chris Wray chipped in with 10 points (5 of 6 shooting) and four rebounds.
