Meade runs over Walt Whitman in 4A semifinals

COLLEGE PARK — Defending 4A champions, No. 8 Meade, had 12 of their 13 players register into the score column to rout No. 13 Walt Whitman, 61-35, and advance to Saturday’s championship game against Eleanor Roosevelt.

Jerrel Elder came one rebound shy of a double-double, converting four of his six shot attempts to finish with 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Tristan Easton led all scorers with 13 points. Meade shot 43.5 percent from the field and 76.2 percent from the free throw line while holding Walt Whitman to 22.2 percent.

Meade jumped out to an early 10-0 run that would set the tempo for the rest contest, leading by as many as 18 during the second quarter. Walt Whitman concluded the first half on a 7-2 run to cut Meade’s halftime lead to 13, but another offensive spurt to start the second half would rejuvenate the Mustangs back to championship ways.

George Wilson paced Whitman with nine points and six rebounds.
