FREDERICK — The Maryland Sports Access high school football preseason tour continued on Thursday as we visited the campus of Linganore High School to watch the Lancers practice.
Linganore is coming off a 7-4 season in which they won its final four games to qualify for the playoffs, but lost in the first round to eventual Class 3A state champion Damascus, 21-7. The Lancers bring back roughly 15 starters, the same nucleus that finished the 2016 on a relatively high note, including quarterback Ryan Leyh, backs Zamarre Snowden and Davon Butler, as well as all-area linebacker Luke Freeman.
In addition, speedy wide receiver Joey Felton, a transfer from Good Counsel, and lineman Matt Beekey, a transfer from Clarksburg, join the fray for Linganore, which appears destined to return to championship caliber in a wide-open Class 3A.
Below, Linganore coach Rick Conner talks about the upcoming season, what to expect on offense and defense, his program’s progression, the road to returning to prominence and more. Freeman, the senior linebacker, and senior safety Zach Willett share their takes on the state of the team and the upcoming season.
Be on the lookout for more one-on-one interviews and in-depth previews as the season approaches.
