WALDORF — JeMichael Jones shifted right and then bounced left, following behind the durable North Point offensive line that operated like a well-oiled machine. A few gallops later, after blowing through the rickety Old Mill front-seven and stiff-arming a pair of Patriots defenders, Jones put on the burners 45 yards to the house, igniting a running clock and putting an exclamation point on the Eagles season-opener.
The Howard quarterback commit amassed 236 total yards and four total touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) on Friday night, powering No. 25 North Point past 4A East foe Old Mill at home, 42-0.
“We came out to hunt. We came out prepared,” said Jones, who ran for 91 yards on seven carries and threw for 145 yards on 6-for-12 passing. “We came out ready to work.”

From the onset, Jones put the Eagles into high-gear, marching 62 yards to the end zone on the opening drive — connecting with Chelen Garnes on a 27-yard slant across the middle, which put North Point on the board, 7-0. Two plays into their second offensive possession, Garnes ripped through the line of scrimmage for a 68-yard gash, making it 14-0 and soon after, Garnes took a hook-and-later 50 yards to the house, which padded North Point’s cushion, 21-0.

“All I saw was green grass,” Garnes said.
Along with his three first half touchdowns, Garnes finished the night with 166 total yards – 125 on the ground and 41 through the air.
“We just came out here with a dub mentality,” Garnes said. “We were hyped. Ain’t nobody wanted to see us win. We came out here and did our thing
Right before halftime, the Eagles cashed in off an Old Mill punt gone awry when Jones found Malik Lawerence (10-3 receiving yards on five receptions) on a 12-yard score. North Point led 28-0 at the break and swelled it to 35-0 when Jones gashed the Patriots on his 45-yard scamper.
North Point tripled Old Mill’s output in total yards, 363-114 – turning what was billed to be an intriguing matchup between the No. 17 and 18 team in the Maryland state media poll into a rout
“Coach McCormick does a good job with his kids. You don’t think going into a game like this you’re going to have a score like that, but we played in all three phases tonight,” North Point coach Tom Petre said. “We ended up on the good side of it.”
Isaiah Batts led Old Mill in rushing with 66 yards on 14 carries.
Last November, a first-round playoff exit fueled bitterness and a imprinted an image into the minds of North Point players they never want to see again: Seeing a promising season spiral down the drain because of lackluster postseason play. They can’t get back in the same position in one night, but they sure took the all-important first step in doing so with the romp on their home turf.
“A good bulk of these kids have played two games in the 4A East playoff region [the past two years], and they’ve come home with not the results they like,” Petre said. “The kids attacked the offseason hard. It’s been in their head. I think they wanted to prove they belong here.”
