The latest Tweets from Maryland Sports Access (@MDSportsAccess): “No. 3 @AthleticsDunbar shuts down No. 11 Fairmont Heights take 1A crown (by @_bwarren) https://t.co/noesyCMicz https://t.co/ucVti5E44n”

After countless hours of preparation, the grind meets the pavement on Friday and Saturday for every team that didn’t kickoff the 2017 regular season last weekend. This week, our number one, St. Frances, hosts the top dog in all of Virginia — Bishop Sullivan Catholic. No. 3 St. John’s (D.C.) treks out to California to challenge De La Salle, one of the top units in the country. You can watch that game on ESPNU at 11 p.m. EST.

There are three Top 25 matchups and a host of other intriguing matchups, and fortunately for you, MSA is on the job.

Our Game of the Week pits a Class 4A East matchup between No. 17 North Point and No. 18 Old Mill (state media poll rankings). After a 9-2 season last fall, the Eagles return one of the top offensive lineman nationally in Rasheed Walker (10 Power-5 offers) and other impact players, like cornerback Chelen Garnes (offer from Navy), quarterback JeMichael Jones (Howard commit) and receiver Johnathan Riley. Old Mill, meanwhile, looks to avenge an upset loss in the first round of the playoffs last fall, which spoiled a 10-0 regular season.

We’ll also have reporters at the following contests on Friday: Kyle Parsons covers a Montgomery County clash between No. 8 Damascus and unranked Blake, Brooks Warren is stationed at No. 11 Northwest vs. Wootton and Chapin Jewell covers an intriguing 1A game in Cumberland between Alleghany and Dunbar. On Saturday, Tom Peace heads out to report on No. 14 Calvert Hall vs. Dundalk at 7 p.m., Josh Mitchell will update us on No. 21 Fort Hill at USO in Pittsburgh (2 p.m. start) and I will be covering a juicy Class 3A matchup between Milford Mill and Tuscarora (1 p.m. start).
