UPPER MARLBORO — Everything was business as usual for Wise, even after they heard they were ranked No. 1 in the latest high school football rankings in The Washington Post. The Pumas have amassed an impressive 35-game win-streak on the back of an unbelievable offense and an unbreakable defense. To expect anything less than that at the Upper Marlboro school is simple heresy.
The approach for Friday’s game against county rival Oxon Hill didn’t change for the top ranked Pumas.
“We don’t worry about the ranking,” senior running back John Oliver said. “We are just playing Wise football.”
Wise played its style of football on Friday in the 58-14 pummeling of Oxon Hill and leaned on Oliver (137 total yard, 2 touchdowns), who punctuated the dominant showing with an 80-yard kickoff return to the house, which gave the Pumas a 44-14 lead early in the third quarter.
“First and foremost, I want to shout out the [offensive line],” Oliver said. “Without those guys up front nothing is possible. It starts with the big fellas every down.”
Sophomore quarterback Quinton Williams was able to get in on the fun Friday with his arms and legs, accounting for 189 yard and four touchdowns through the air and added an impressive 46-yard scramble.
Throughout the evening, and most of the season, Wise has seen teams take plays that Calvert Hall ran during its Week 2 matchup. The game has been a mark of pride for these Pumas and a tipping point for how good they can be. The game film has been studied fervently by opposing coaches, but it just hasn’t worked so far in slowing down the mighty Pumas.

Parrish proudly stated after his victory Friday night that, after the Calvert Hall game in which they won by two points, his coaching staff met together to rethink some of the things they ran and adjusted accordingly.
“Now it’s funny because I’m sure everybody watched that Calvert Hall game, and we just laugh like, yeah, watch that game,” Parrish said with a grin.
Additionally, the defense for the Pumas did a magnificent job during the blowout, holding the Clippers to only two touchdowns and just 162 yards offensively. Dennis Stokes also added to his interception total with a late takeaway in the fourth quarter that led to an 8-yard touchdown on the ground from Brandon Bell.
Jy’ir Ingram led the Clippers in his first start of the year, who was starting in place for the injured DeJuan Rollins, amassing 57 rushing yards on eight carries.
