During National Hoopfest at DeMatha Catholic High School this past weekend, Duke signee Cam Reddish was the talk of the show. In Saturday’s game against MSA-ranked Georgetown Prep, Reddish dazzled for 35 points, six rebounds and six assists. When his team, Westtown, was down seven points with 45 seconds to go, he somehow canned back-to-back 3-pointers in a 20-second span to pull them within one.
Westtown didn’t win the Saturday matinee, but Reddish returned Sunday and put on an absolute spectacle: 53 points (his team scored 77) on 14 of 22 field goals, eight 3’s and 17 free throws, in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. The eruption was enough to vault him to the top of his class in the latest 247sports recruit rankings, as Reddish jumped Zion Williamson and future teammate R.J. Barrett.
“Cam is the most complete high school player I’ve seen come out of high school since LeBron James,” Westtown coach Seth Berger told 247Sports. “I don’t compare Cameron to anyone in his class. I think about him about being one of the best players of all time. [That] was the best high school performance by an individual and it’s not surprising.”

Reddish is a 6-foot-8, two-way wing with a rare combination of explosiveness and finesse. He’s always had the offensive gifts, being able to consistently hit the 3-ball and create opportunities by putting it on the deck. But Reddish is frequently chided for his lack of competitiveness and energy. He took that to heart this past weekend and made a strong effort to dive for loose balls and get a hand on every play. Seven steals in two games on the national stage is a testament to that.
Though it’s far-fetched he hasn’t even graduated high school yet, Reddish is projected as the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by nbadraft.net.
Reddish said he chose Duke because they “were straight up” and weren’t hedging on any weaknesses he needed to clean up.
“They told me what I needed to work on, and that’s what I need,” Reddish told Maryland Sports Access. “I need to get better. That’s my goal. That’s basically what it was; they were straight up and told me what I had to work on.”

This is just pure speculation, and it may be obvious given where his game stands at this juncture, but it sounds like Reddish is preparing to go one-and-done: Play at Duke for one year, receive the necessary experience and nurturing to play in the NBA and then declare for the draft in 2019.
In middle school, Reddish said he had his eyes set on Syracuse, as he adored Jim Boeheim’s Orange growing up. But then he traveled the country and discovered more, and ultimately an opportunity to play for Mike Krzyzewski at Duke, where the legendary coach is awaiting his arrival.
“He’s told me to be ready to come in and be a leader,” Reddish said. “I’ll be ready to go when I get there.”
