Northwestern soils D.J. Turner’s career day as Maryland loses second straight

D.J. Moore amassed 210 yards receiving and two touchdowns, but it was not enough as the Terps fell to Northwestern 37-21 at home Saturday. Maryland drops to 3-3 on the year and 1-2 in the Big Ten, while Northwestern stands at 3-3 and 1-2 in conference play.

Moore’s continued his electric playmaking at Maryland Stadium, as the junior notched a career-high 12 catches for a career-best 210 yards through the air. The Philadelphia native became just the seventh player in Maryland history to eclipse the 200-yard receiving mark in a game, and the first player to record 12 catches since Torrey Smith caught 14 balls for 240 yards against NC State in 2010.

Moore’s first touchdown in the first quarter put Maryland ahead 7-0, before the Wildcats responded  with a field goal and touchdown to take a 10-7 lead in the second quarter.

A 21-point second quarter propelled Northwestern to a 24-14 lead at half, before adding in 13 more points in the second half to seal the victory.

Sophomore quarterback Max Bortenschlager totaled three touchdowns on the day, tossing two to Moore and another 20-yard strike to Taivon Jacobs in the third quarter. Bortenschlager finished with a career-high 255 yards through the air on the afternoon.

Maryland is back in action next Saturday, Oct. 21 at Wisconsin. Kickoff is scheduled for noon eastern on FOX.
