Five questions with Oakdale quarterback, senior Sean McGaughey

What have you done this past off-season to make the change to the quarterback position after being a free safety last season?

I have been putting in work outside of our team practices dating all the way back to February at the Quarterback Factory. Since then I’ve been focusing on my mechanics and footwork in the pocket. I also attended some good college combines where I got beneficial instruction.

Is there a quarterback that you look up to? If so, who?

You always strive to be like those guys in the NFL. The Peyton Manning’s and Tom Brady’s. I don’t really have one I look up to, but I just try to be the best QB possible. And the best QB’s get their team wins. So I’m going to do everything I can to help the team night in and night out.

What does Coach Stein really emphasize you to do?

What coach really put on my shoulders this year was to be more of a leader everyday. Which is an easy task with this close-knit group of guys. We all have the same mindset.

What will the Oakdale Bears bring in 2015?

People should be prepared to see a fast and very physical defense, countered with an up-tempo offense. And what helps us is our experience due to the amount of returning starters.

How do you feel about your chances of returning to the playoffs for the second year in a row?

We feel good about our chances to make it again, but we know how hard it will be. Playing in the 3A West, there will be such good teams in our way and we are accepting that challenge.
